Jane Jones, 85

ADAMS, Mass. —  Jane Elin (Buchanan) Jones, 85, of Adams died Friday, December 29, 2023, at her home, with her children and her beloved golden retriever Abby by her side.

She was born in North Adams on February 3, 1938, the only child of John Henry and Gladys (Pinchbeck) Buchanan.

Jane was a graduate of Drury High School in North Adams, class of 1956.

She was married to Roy Calvin Jones in 1959 until their divorce in 1981. They had two children, Lisa and Jonathan, whom Jane considered the joys of her life. Later, Jane met her loving companion David Francis Woodin, with whom she would remain until his death in August of 2022. They shared their common loves of nature and pets ... especially their golden retrievers.

Jane worked for almost 30 years as a bookkeeper, culminating with her role at the Berkshire Center for Families and Children. While there, it always brought her joy to see the comings and goings of the children. Upon retiring as a bookkeeper at age 70, she took a part-time job as a library assistant at the North Adams Public Library, which she continued until she was 83. It was her dream job, as she loved seeing all the books that came into the library. She was an extremely avid reader that was thrilled every time she discovered a new author to read. In addition to reading, Jane was a birdwatcher, a hobby she enthusiastically passed on to both her children. She took great pleasure throughout her life watching the birds at her bird feeders. Jane always had at least one pet in her life at any given time. She’s had many cats and several dogs over the years and loved them all.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Lisa Anne Lister (Douglas) of Cheshire, MA; son Jonathan Howard Jones (Leanne) of Wrentham, MA and granddaughter Gina Augusta Lister, also of Cheshire. She is also survived by her step-granddaughter Delaney Morrissey Duff (Garrett) of Peterborough, NH, along with many cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no services at this time. At Jane’s request, a private graveside memorial will be held in the spring when the flowers are blooming and the birds are singing. Memorial donations can be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or the North Adams Public Library. To add to the Book of Memories, please visit www.flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com
