Richard Colo, 92

READSBORO, Vt. —Richard Constante Colo, 92 of Readsboro, VT. died on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born in Readsboro, VT on June 30, 1931, the son of the late Gabriel and Irma (Baruzzi) Colo. He attended St. Joseph High School in North Adams, MA before becoming proprietor of the Readsboro General Store, which he operated for many years until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Joachim Church in Readsboro.

After retirement, he began to travel and especially enjoyed his time in Aruba and driving cross country with his wife, Julie. Richard was an avid Patriot Fan and a season ticket holder for over 40 years. In addition, he loved the sport of horseracing and enjoyed many August days at the race-track in Saratoga.

He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and skiing and jogged six miles a day for many years. Richard most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren. He attended all their birthdays and special events, including graduations in many parts of the country. He loved Readsboro; and his favorite past time was sitting on his front porch, watching the world go by and chatting with friends and neighbors.

Richard was predeceased by his wife, Julia Comai Colo. She died January 7, 1999. They were married on August 22, 1955. He leaves his children, Debra Colo Nemetz (James) of Boston, MA; Richard Colo of Saxtons River, VT; Mary (Lawrence) Dupont of Crystal River, FL; Eileen (Timothy) Newlin of Salt Lake City UT and Shaun Colo and Debra Heleba of Lincoln, VT. He also leaves his grandchildren, Benjamin and Patrick Dupont, Anna and Sarah Nemetz, Moira Newlin and Julia and Emelia Colo. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Colo.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Richard Colo will be celebrated on Saturday May 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Joachim Church in Readsboro, VT. Burial will follow in the Village cemetery. There are no calling hours.
