Donat Harpin, 95

Donat George Harpin, 95, of North Adams died on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Williamstown Commons. Donat was born on August 8, 1928 in Marlboro, MA a son of the late Dona & Eugenie (Delisle) Harpin.

Donat came to North Adams at the age of 9 and attended Notre Dame Parochial School. He completed commercial courses and graduated from Bliss Business College in North Adams. He was a decorated veteran of the United States serving with Army Air Force obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Donat was in the auto industry for most of his life was last employed by Ralston’s Auto Parts for 10 years until his retirement.

Donat was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He was also a member of Greylock Community Club and North Adams American Legion. He enjoyed trips to the Casino and was an avid Red Sox Fan. He was a true family man and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Donat is survived by his wife of 72 years, Barbara Jeanette (Williams) Harpin. They were married on August 11, 1951. He also leaves his 5 daughters, Michele Biron (Dennis), Donna Maruco (Joseph), Sharon Pessolano, Joanne Sampson (John), Laurie Lamarre (Peter)and three sons, David Harpin (Ann) Steven Harpin and Gregory Harpin (Jennifer). He also leaves 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and a brother, Valmore Harpin, Marcelle Heideman, Doris Boschetti and a granddaughter, Sonya Maruco.

 

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Donat Harpin will be on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 12-2 PM at Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home – CENTRAL CHAPEL 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247. Sorry to hear of Don’s passing. I first met Don back in the late 60’s when he worked at Noel’s auto parts. I got to know and appreciate him more after Joanne and John got married. We always looked forward to seeing Don, Barb and their family over the years. Don will surely be missed, but his legacy lives on in the wonderful family he leaves behind.
