Harvey "Butch" Blanchard, 81
ADAMS, Mass. —
Mr. Harvey “Butch” Blanchard, 81, of Adams, died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, surrounded by his family at Craneville Place in Dalton.
He was born in Adams on July 4, 1942, son of the late Harvey and Martha (Koch) Blanchard. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams Memorial High School.
Mr. Blanchard was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany with a tank squadron until receiving his honorable discharge as Private First Class on January 4, 1965.
Mr. Blanchard owned and operated the former Car Tech auto repair in Adams from 1989 until retiring in July of 2006. Earlier he had worked for 20 years as a mechanic for Gene’s Sales and Service as well as the former Windsor Motors in North Adams and the former Central Auto in Adams.
He was a member of the Berkshire Lodge of Masons and the Adams Post 160 American Legion. Butch loved the ocean, visiting Florida, riding his motorcycle and had been an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife, the former Darlene A. Hagen, whom he married on September 21, 1990; four sons, Richard Blanchard and his wife Donna, Steven Blanchard, Scott Blanchard and William Blanchard and his wife Laura, all of Adams; a stepson, Stephen Kleiner and his husband Louis Vega of Miami Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Nathan, Dustin, Megan, Jacob, Zebulun and Seth; four great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Bryan Blanchard and by his stepson Richard Kleiner.
Per Mr. Blanchard’s request, funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours.
