Barbara King, 99

Barbara Rose (Bailey) King, 99 of Clarksburg died on Thursday December 14, 2023 at Williamstown Commons. Born on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1924 to Homer and Delores (Major) Bailey, wife of Vincent Cornelius King. They were married July 8, 1944 in St. Francis of Assisi Church. Mr. King passed away just two months shy of their 50th anniversary, on April 30, 1994.

Barbara graduated from St. Joseph High School with the class of 1942, she had perfect attendance for her twelve years of school. She retired from Sprague’s after 30 years of service, was a member of the Quarter Century Club and the Quality Circle Group, she retired from the Special Test Department. After retiring she worked at the Village Flower Shop. She was a member and past president of the North Adams Garden Club, and past president of the Sprague Retirees Club.

Barbara loved singing and was a member of Berkshire Heptones, a barbershop style chorus for 26 years. Barbara sang in the St. Francis Choir for several years. She directed the Golden tones singing group of seniors from the Clarksburg Senior Center, where she was secretary since 1998. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a communicant of St. Elizabeth and St Francis Church. She volunteered at the North Adams Tourist Booth for several years. She enjoyed writing poetry and several of her poems were published in the Transcript and she had two poems published in a National Poetry Publication contest. She was editor of the Clarksburg COA Newsletter.

Barbara is survived by a son, Vincent M. King and his wife Jean of Clarksburg, 5 grandchildren, Kelly Lafontaine, David Lafontaine, Susan Colvin (Bert), Vincent S. King (Denise) and Shannon Marie King. She also leaves 10 great grandchildren, Julia King, Vincent King, Jake King, Nicole King, Declan King, Keira King, Addison Colvin, Madelyn Colvin, Adrien Bertoli, and David J. Lafontaine. She also leaves her God child, Sheila Bouley (John) of Stamford, Vt and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her daughter, Joanne King, son Shaun Patrick King and her sister, Doloris Elizabeth Dominichini.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A service to celebrate the life of Barbara King will be on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home -WEST CHAPEL 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Clarksburg Senior Center.
