Mary A. Como
PITTSFIELD, Mass. —
Mary A. Como, 98, of Pittsfield died on November 22, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Bernardo) Zona.
Mary graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1943. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Sprague Electric Company and A. Shapiro & Sons in North Adams until 1963. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Kelly Dietrich, Inc., in Pittsfield.
She was a communicant of the former Mt. Carmel Church and a member and officer of the Lady’s Guild. After the closing of Mt. Carmel she became a member of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Rosary Sodality.
She was a volunteer for RSVP, the Berkshire Humane Society, and Our Lady’s Kitchen.
Mary was an avid reader, traveler, and crafter. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Steven Como, and wife Elizabeth; her nephews Richard Zona and John Zona (Consuelo); her nieces Beverly Whitney (Brayton), Mary Beth Peck (Daniel), Diane O’Neil, Karen Racette (Rick), and Lisa Richards (Tom); grandnieces Danielle Whitney Hakes (Jesse), Katie Mason (Scott), Mariah Ferrara, and Jenna Martone (Anthony); grandnephews John Zona (April), Adam O’Neil (Melissa), Zachery Richards (Krista), and Brayton Whitney; great grand nieces Tessa Hake, Raegan Mason, Natalie O’Neil, Everly Martone, and Audrey Richards; and great grand nephews William Hakes, Tyler Hakes, Alexander Zona, and Zachery Zona.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry Como, who she married on April 19, 1947, and who died on December 22, 1977.
She was also predeceased by her brother Joseph Zona, her sister Madeline O’Neil, and her nephew Kevin O’Neil.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Pittsfield. A calling hour will take place at the Church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Memorial donations are suggested to the Sacred Heart Rosary Sodality or the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA.
