Richard T. McCarthy, 77

ADAMS, Mass. —  

Mr. Richard T. McCarthy, 77, of Adams, died on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Craneville Place in Dalton.

He was born in Adams on March 18, 1946, a son of the late Gerald and Yvonne (Laramee) McCarthy. He attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from Mt. Greylock High School with the class of 1963.

Mr. McCarthy was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Army until receiving his honorable discharge as Sergeant on August 2, 1968, having received a Silver Service Star.

Dick worked as a car salesman for Bedard Brothers in Cheshire for many years until retiring. He had also worked as a veterans advocate with the City of North Adams, helping many veterans receive their benefits and in his early years had been a chef for many local restaurants, including his own establishment, the former Richmond Restaurant,

He was a member of the Williamstown American Legion Post 152, had served as Chaplain for the Post 996 VFW in North Adams, a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Association, the Presidents Club of American Honda and had been an honoree of the 2007-2008 Who’s Who. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his two sons, Thomas McCarthy of Adams and Timothy McCarthy and his wife Stacy of Cheshire; his daughter Myhanh Pham and her husband Nam of Marlborough, MA; his sister Gail O’Hearn of Lakeland, FL; six grandchildren, Jerald, Sarah, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Le and Tan; one great grandson, Arthur; his brother-in-law Jim Krutiak of Adams and by his best friend from Vietnam, Jim Taylor of Illinois. He also leaves Aubrey (Tetlow) Thurston, whom he thought of as another granddaughter.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Kathryn (Gyurasz) McCarthy, by his brother Michael McCarthy and by his sister Patricia Krutiak.

The funeral will be held on Friday, December 1st at 11:00 A.M. at the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.

Calling hours are Friday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

I was sorry to see dick passed away. He was good friends with my boyfriend Thomas bernier. That's how I knew dick, he was a good man he fished with Tom all the time till Tom quit. God bless all of you.
