Patricia Chandler, 87

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Patricia Ann (Ryan) Chandler, 87 of North Adams died on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Sugar Hill Assisted Living in Dalton, MA.

Patricia was born in North Adams, MA on February 1, 1936, a daughter of Henry Thomas “Sox” and Viola Eliza (Lamoureaux) Ryan.

Patricia married William Walton Chandler on August 15, 1970.

Patricia was a 1955 graduate of Drury High School. She received her B.A. from Elms College and her Master’s in Education at the former North Adams State College. She taught hundreds of students spanning her almost 40-year career, most of which was as a teacher at Greylock Elementary School.

She was passionate about her plants and had quite the green thumb. Her house was filled with this hobby and she was great at it. Similarly, she loved animals, but especially all the cats she rescued throughout the years. But it is her love of family that really made her shine. Her dedication to supporting her family throughout her life, putting others’ needs before her own is what will be her lasting legacy.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Jaime Chandler McNeil, son-in-law Scott McNeil of Somers, CT; four grandsons: Brodie, Kelby, Rylan, and Logan LeSage; and two granddaughters: Madeline and Sadie McNeil. She also leaves behind her brothers James Ryan of Evanston, IL, William Ryan of York, PA and Thomas Ryan of North Adams, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband William on April 29, 2013, daughter Julie Patricia LeSage on November 1, 2021, niece Colleen Ryan and nephew Reggie Ryan.

As per Patricia’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Berkshire Humane Society through the funeral home, in not only her name but also her dear daughter Julie’s name, who died just under 2 years ago. One of my favorite teachers at Greylock School.

Mrs. Chandler was my second grade teacher at Greylock Elementary School, and was one of my most favorite. She always wore fun earrings, long skirts, and often shared her love of cats. I remember her portable classroom having the first computer I’d ever seen, and as a reward for completing our work she’d let us play “hangman” on it. It was certainly a coveted corner! I loved the way she told stories and made us feel so comfortable and cared for. I hope that I’m able to leave such an equally wonderful legacy as a teacher. Thank you, Mrs. Chandler! May your soul rest in peace!

I remember having Mrs. Chandler for my 3rd grade teacher and having to leave halfway during the school year to have a baby. She always took time and taught us and helped us if we had any problems one on one.
RIP Mrs. Chandler
