Richard A. Bergeron, 81

FLORIDA, Mass. —  Richard A. Bergeron 81, of Florida, MA died Saturday October 21, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.

He was born in North Adams on November 15, 1941 a son of Delphis and Margaret (Aubin) Bergeron. Richard graduated from the former St. Joseph High School in North Adams.

Richard was a decorated Vietnam veteran of the United States Navy serving his country for 21 years and obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He received the Good Conduct Awarded, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the 1st Class Color with Palm. He completed the Navy Recruiting Orientation program and served as a Navy Command Career Counselor and was awarded the Navy Recruiting Badge.

After his military career he was employed at Commonwealth Sprague in North Adams and later at Williams College in the Food Service Department.

He was a member of the North Adams American Legion and the North Adams VFW and a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kosika Church in Adams, MA.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years Suzanne R. Bergeron whom he married August 26, 1995, two sons Daniel Bergeron of Belchertown, MA., Homer Butler and his wife Jennifer of Vernon, CT. and stepson Jerrid Burdick and his wife Diane of Clarksburg, MA. He also leaves grandchildren Lincoln Burdick, Veda Kathryn Burdick, Katie Bergeron and Brandon Butler, Brother’s and Sister’s In- Laws Diane and Steve Harrington and Richard and Patricia Duteau. He was predeceased by brother Robert Bergeron, sisters Lucille Matranga, Vivian Senecal, Shirley Vandetty and Carol Finocchiaro. “Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.”

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday October 26, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Adams, MA. Burial with full military honors will follow in the family plot in Florida Church Cemetery on Florida Mountain. Sue, I was very sad to hear of Dick's passing. I worked at the Williamstown College Faculty House with him. I enjoyed his company so much. Such a sweetheart. I'm so sorry.
