Donald R. Davis, 86
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —
Mr. Donald R. Davis, 86, of North Adams, died on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at North Adams Commons, where he was loved, cared for, and respected.
He was born in Adams on July 28, 1937, a son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Cyr) Davis. He attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School.
He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Army until receiving his honorable discharge in 1966.
Mr. Davis worked for Raytheon Technologies in Lexington, MA where he worked for 30 years in semi-conductor research, until his retirement. During those 30 years at Raytheon, he was awarded 37 patents. He was a graduate of Wentworth College and received further education from Harvard and Brandeis University. Following his retirement Don would split his time between Sierra Vista, AZ, North Adams, MA and Vero Beach, FL where he worked as a driver for Hertz Rental Car and as a porter for Stop & Shop.
He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, North Adams and St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Florida.
He was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen A. (George) Davis, whom he married on October 3, 1998; two stepsons, Michael Coburn and his wife Debbie of FL, Craig Clough and his wife Marnie of Adams; his step daughter Kristen Meehan and her fiancé William Stephens of Williamstown, his sister-in-law Suzie Davis and by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as extended family, Anthony Hyte and his wife Leslie of Hinsdale and Bryson Hyte and his wife Cortney of Hamden, CT, and their children.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Jean Dennehy; his brothers Ronald (Suzie’s husband) and Kenneth Davis, his sister Carol Gleason, and his stepson, Eric Clough.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30th at 11:00 A.M. in All Saints Episcopal Church, 59 Summer St., North Adams. Calling hours at the church are Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral.
Burial will be at a later date.
