Frederick Peter Gancarz, Jr. 73

ADAMS, Mass. —  

Mr. Frederick Peter Gancarz, Jr., 73, of Adams, died on Thursday, September 14, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

He was born in Adams on May 5, 1950, a son of the late Frederick P. Gancarz and Jeannine L. (Tetreault) Gancarz. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from the Charles H. McCann Technical High School with the class of 1969.

Pete worked for various construction companies in Berkshire County, including his father’s former business, Gancarz’s Blacktopping. He retired from the Town of Adams Department of Public Works.

He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams. He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard and the Adams Lions Club. Pete coached youth soccer and volunteered on several occasions for Boy Scout Troop 38, Adams. He enjoyed camping, gardening and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Lynn M. Lavendol, whom he married on August 25, 1978; his daughter Heather Gancarz of Pittsfield; his son Joshua Gancarz and his fiancé Kiersten Hunt of Adams; his grandson Jackson Molleur of Pittsfield; a sister Linda Tassone and her husband Wayne of Adams; his stepmother Helen Gancarz of Adams and by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother David Gancarz and by his sister Brenda Shafferick.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 20th at 9:00 A.M. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams.

Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.

Calling hours are Tuesday, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

I’m so sorry for the loss of this wonderful man. Oddly enough his name brought up memories of Pete and “D” up at Anthony’s pond. (Probably 60 yrs ago) in the summer. Swimming, dancing to the juke box and eating whatever the Anthony’s had at the snack bar. It was a long time ago, but the wonderful memories of being young and knowing Pete, will remain with me forever. His memory will be with me forever.
