Robert L. Richardson, Jr., 87
ADAMS, Mass. —Robert (Bob) Richardson, 87, of Adams, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his wife and family on September 1, 2023. Born in Adams on October 24, 1935 to Robert (Bob) L. Richardson, Sr. and Mary E. (Walach) Richardson, Bob lived his life in Adams, in the family home. He attended Adams schools. Bob is survived by his wife and soulmate of 66 years, Marie Rita (Bombardier) Richardson; his four children: Richardson of Hope Mills, NC, Christine (Andrew) Watson of Lenox, MA; Joseph (Donna) Richardson and John (Ellen) Richardson, both of Adams; eight grandchildren including Robert and Amanda Richardson, Samantha DeCarlo, Megan and Jake Richardson and Corbin, Lydia and Austin Richardson; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Riley. He also leaves his brothers, William of Klamath Falls, OR and Lawrence of Cheshire; a sister, Elizabeth Miller of Pittsfield; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Richardson, and by a sister, Edna Daniels. Shortly after marrying Marie, Bob was inducted into the US Army and was deployed as part of the Military Police to Korea for 2 years as a member of the 2nd Infantry Brigade until his Honorable Discharge in 1960. Bob was a quiet, hardworking man. He started his working years at Aladco in Adams and then spent nearly 20 years at the Power Transformer division of General Electric in Pittsfield before retiring. Those who knew him know that he rarely sat still, so it came as no surprise that he then started working part-time for his son, John, at Mr. Rooter in Adams. It’s no surprise that Bob and Marie became long-time members of the Hoosac Valley Motorcycle Club, having first met the day Bob pulled up to Marie’s apartment building on an Indian motorcycle, to visit a friend. Both Bob and Marie played in bowling and softball leagues where Bob earned the nickname of “Iron Belly”. The majority of his life he also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his wife, friends and children, but especially with his sons and grandsons near their summer home in Cambridge NY. The breadth of Bob’s skills can be seen in his many woodworking projects. He also maintained and improved his family home most of his life, and was a well-skilled, self-taught auto mechanic. Those who know the family see the work ethic, the love and ability to learn that Bob handed down to his family, and can also see the loyalty, sense of discipline, dependability and sense of ethics that Bob instilled in them. A calling hour will be held in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams on Saturday, Sept. 9th from 8:30 until 9:30 AM, followed by a graveside service at 10:00 AM in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or at www.stjude.org To leave a message of condolence, please go online to www.paciorekfuneral.com
