Charles N. Cahoon, 80
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Charles Neil "Chuck" Cahoon, 80, of Clarksburg, died on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at his home.
He was born in the North Adams Hospital on March 22, 1943, son of Frank and Clara Uberti Cahoon. He graduated from Drury High School in 1960 and Wentworth Institute in 1962.
Chuck was a veteran of the Vietnam War era and served in the Army's Southeast 1/66 Signal School at Fort Gordon, Ga., from April 1966 to October 1967 and then with the 236th Signal Company in Chun Chon, South Korea, from October 1967 to November 1968.
He worked at the former General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for many years until his retirement in 1998. Chuck was a lifetime member of All Saints Episcopal Church and served in many of its groups including the Vestry. He was a 59-year member of the Lafayette/Greylock Lodge of Masons and was a Past District Deputy Grand Master. He was an officer in the Berkshire Royal Arch Chapter, York Rite of Freemasonry, and Berkshire Commandery 22 Knights Templar.
Chuck played the bagpipes with the Berkshire Highlanders and the Taconic Pipe Band. He was a founder and served as president of the North Adams Historical Society. He also enjoyed flying and maintained his private pilot's license. Chuck researched his family tree for many years, tracing his roots to Scotland and joining the Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie (Beverly) Cahoon, whom he married on June 27, 1964; two daughters, Melissa Chevalier (Gary) of Merrimack, N.H., and Deborah Simons (Rich) of Beacon, N.Y., and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Celebration of Life for Chuck Cahoon will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church. All those attending the funeral are encouraged to wear Chuck's favorite color, plaid. A Masonic service will be held at 9:45 AM on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
