Edward Markland, 90
Edward Joseph Markland, 90, of North Adams went to be with Our Lord on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Ed was born in North Adams, MA on May 26, 1933, the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Hilton Markland. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
He graduated from St Joseph’s High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
Ed married his high school sweetheart, Mary Patricia Bourdon on January 8, 1955.
Ed worked for Spraque Electric for 39 years and secondary jobs at Green Mountain Racetrack; H.A. George Fuels; and MRA Labs. Following his first career, he worked another 20 years for the City of North Adams Transfer Station. He was a member of the American Legion Post 125.
He was a New England sports fan and especially loved his Red Sox. He was so happy when they finally broke the Curse of the Bambino. He was at all his kids’ and grandkids’ events and coached Little League baseball for 7 years. Ed had a great sense of humor and an easy laugh that was contagious.
Ed is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary (Pat), his five children; Steve (wife Reen), Beth Cimonetti (husband Lonny), Donna Neville (husband Matt), Fred (wife Molly), Paul (wife Barbara), and his brother, Donald (wife Dodie). He delighted in his 13 grandchildren; Evan, Scott, Sean, Elise, Leanne, Chase, Liz, Nick, Justin, Kristin, Aron, Andy and Adam as well as 18 great-grandchildren; Avery, Leah, Harper, Dawson, Isaac, Kobe, Nathan, Blake, Jordan, Amaya, Peyton, Colton, Carson, Jackson, Julia, James, Hayden and Kinsley, along with nieces and nephews Carol, Gayle and Bobby.
The family wants to extend our special thanks to Deacon Bruce Ziter for bringing Holy Communion to our Dad weekly and most especially for his friendship over the years.
