Barbara M. Cahoon

CLARKSBURG, Mass. —  Barbara M. (Lewitt) Cahoon, 91, of Clarksburg died on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on October 1, 1931 in North Adams, MA a daughter of the late Leonard & Delia Mabel (Martell) Lewitt.

Barbara attended schools in North Adams including St. Joseph’s Parochial School and St. Joseph’s High School. She was a majorette in Royal Blue Pioneer Drum Corporation and competed around the region. She was a volunteer for Red Cross Nurse’s Aide and contributed over 3000 hours to the Red Cross. She worked at Sprague Electric Company for 5 years and was an aide at North Adams Regional Hospital. She last worked as a nurse’s aide for 27 years at both North Adams Commons and Williamstown Commons.

Barbara was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, she enjoyed bingo, and was a devoted wife, mother to 11 children and grandmother to over 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was the widow of Alton L. Cahoon Jr. who died on May 28, 1996. They were married on November 12, 1955.

Barbara leaves her children, Alana Kocsis (John), William Cahoon (Colleen), Wayne Cahoon (Suzanne), Mark Cahoon (Dawn), Patricia Brown (David), Craig Cahoon, Susan Montgomery (Keath), Charles Cahoon (Kristine), Michael Cahoon (Kay), and her brothers Bernard Lewitt and Charles Lewitt. She also leaves over 30 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Steven Cahoon Sr in 2005, daughter, Ronnie Porey in 2020, brother Leonard Red Lewitt and sisters Nancy Lewitt and Joan Blanchette.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral to celebrate the life of Barbara Cahoon will be celebrated on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Homes – 74 Marshall St. North Adams, Ma 01247 is entrusted with arrangements. Donations may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires through the funeral home.
