It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Al Romano at the age of 78 on July 20, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease and a brief illness. Al was surrounded by his loving wife Nancy, his son Chadwick and his daughter in law Heather as he entered into eternal life with God. Al never threw in the towel in the ring or in his fight to live.
The "Pride of the Berkshires" was born in Adams, Massachusetts on May 13, 1946 to Joseph and Marie (Simon) Romano. Al was an avid fisherman and a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, especially Greg Maddux. Al was also the North American Welterweight Champion before Sugar Ray Leonard took over the title. Al served as a North Adams Police Officer for many years before retiring due to an injury he sustained on the job.
Some of Al's fondest memories were the times he spent fishing on the Salmon River with his with his best friend and former partner on the force Bill Davis. Al could often be seen enjoying one of his favorite cigars.
