Fredy Alvarez, 68

NORTH ADAMS, MA - Fredy Alvarez, 68 formerly of Pownal, VT passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife of 39 years, Gail Alvarez.

Born on October 23,1954 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He was the son of the late Martha and Rigoberto Alvarez.   

He was last employed by Greylock Bowl and Golf/Mingo’s Sports Bar and Grill in North Adams.

He was a former communicant of Cheshire Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and volunteering for the various organizations that he loved being involved with.  He had a gift for making friends easily and a laugh that was infectious. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. 

Fredy served in the Massachusetts National Guard Combat Support Company 2-104 Infantry. He also belonged to the Berkshire Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, American Legion Post 160 Color Guard, and The Adams Outdoorsman.

Family was everything to Fredy. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and cousin. He touched many lives in a positive, caring, and selfless way.

Fredy is survived by his loving wife Gail Alvarez whom he married in 1984; his sons Jose Alvarez and Cody Alvarez, his daughters Christy Alvarez, Roxanna Alvarez, and Rosie Carmichael.

He leaves behind 9 grandchildren whom he adored and cherished. Zachary Alvarez, Jesslynn Boomsma-Alvarez, Jase Boomsma, Lainey Alvarez, Wrenley Alvarez, Justin Brewer Jr., Gianna Coony, Jeremiah Alvarez, and Jayda Alvarez.

He also leaves behind countless nephews and nieces whom he adored.

He is survived by his siblings and in-laws, Leon Alvarez and his wife Lynn of Venice, FL.; Lillian Shaker of North Adams, MA; Marty Alvarez and his wife Martela of North Adams, MA; Osmin Alvarez and his wife Monica of Williamstown, MA; and Anna Cloutier and her husband David of S. Portland, ME.  Steven Wright and partner Jackie Thompson of Adams, MA; Joseph Wright and his wife Lisa of Travelers Rest, SC; Robert Wright and his wife Sharon of Easley, SC; Chris Wright and his wife Bridget of ND, and Teri Kruzel and her husband Mark of Adams, MA.  

He was predeceased by his parents, Rigoberto and Martha Alvarez, his in-laws Raymond and Rachel Wright and his brother-in-law James Shaker.

Calling hours:  Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 11 from 4-6 p.m., at the Cheshire Baptist Church located at 32 North Street, Cheshire, MA.   Following the calling hours a service will be held.

Funeral notice: A graveside service for Fredy Alvarez will be held on Wednesday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at Southview Cemetery in North Adams, MA

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Adams Outdoorsman Youth Programs at P.O. Box 122, Adams, MA 01220 or to the Adams American Legion at 160 Forest Park Ave, Adams, MA 01220.

His family would like to thank the staff at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield for their kindness, love, and support during his final days.

So very sorry to see that Fredy has passed. He and I spent a lot of time playing pool and drinking beers in 1981-1982. I lived on West Main Street in North Adams, and Fredy lived just off the same street. He was fun to hang around with and will be missed. My condolences to his family.
