Robert E. Baugh, 80

ADAMS, Mass. — Robert “Bob” E. Baugh was a devout Catholic, an unwaveringly loving father and grandfather, and a frequent indulger in the simple pleasures of life–Burger King. He was a teller of hilarious, and sometimes tragic, stories that will last many generations to come.

Born in Saratoga, NY, in 1942 to the late Hazel (Adams) Sacco and Robert H. Baugh, Bob grew up alongside his late brother, Richard Baugh who died in 1977. In his early years, the family moved to Stamford, VT, where they became longtime residents.

Bob graduated from Drury High School in 1961 and immediately entered into an illustrious career as a draftsman for North Adams Sprague Electric Company. He drafted architectural plans for six years and, in 1964, joined the Army National Guard, concurrently serving as a Platoon Sergeant for TOW missile systems until 1988.

In 1967, Bob was hired as a Senior Designer for General Electric and General Dynamics where he stayed until 1998. While working at GE, he occupied the role of Chief Shop Steward for Local 140. Through this, he became a beloved mentor and leader for his community.

In Adams, he and his wife raised two children, Alenda Baugh-Zelazo and Jason Baugh. As a father, he was fun, inventive, stubborn, and honest.

After retirement, he and his wife, Patricia, pioneered an antique business, Baugh Antiques. Bob spent much of his time buried in sawdust while crafting furniture in his woodworking shop–one of his greatest joys was restoring his 1873 house and barns.

In addition, Bob loved animals–most notably his dog, Gina. He was an avid camper, a history buff, and a master educator on the concept of “selective listening.”

Every Saturday, Bob could be found in the front pew of the 4 o’clock mass at the Parish of St. John Paul the Great. He was a devoted member of the St. Stanislaus Society, the St. John Paul Bible Study Group, and a dear friend to his parish’s Deacon.

There are two things that no one will ever question about Bob: he loved his family, and he cherished God. If you struck up a conversation with him, both subjects were likely to come up; and certainly, any excuse to mention his adored wife, Patricia Baugh, was guaranteed. His essence can be summed up by his frequent motto—the same one etched into his wife’s headstone— “All you need is love.”

Bob passed away the morning of April 5, 2023, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. He leaves behind three half siblings, Valerie Socco, Leslie Bosson, and Joseph Sacco, two children, Alenda and her partner Tim Ziemba, and Jason and his partner Dody Bigelow, two grandchildren, Lukas and Madeline Zelazo, and many friends acquired through his quotidian lunches at the Adams Senior Center.

With his passing, he joins his sweet wife Patricia and many beloved family and friends.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 12th at 10:00 AM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pop Cares, PO Box 482, Williamstown, MA 01267.
