Kevin J. Morandi Candidate For City Council Ward 2 - PittsfieldA self-described "Berkshire Boy," Kevin Morandi moved with his family to Pittsfield in July 2006. Born and raised in Lee, Morandi, 52, has been a small business owner for 25 years, running the Clip and Snip barbershop in Lee. With experience as a high school softball and basketball coach, Morandi said one of his top priorities is education.
"We're not bringing families into the city without top-notch schools and I will work very closely with Allendale [Elementary School] and Morningside [Community School] to advocate for education," Morandi said.
The key to strong schools, Morandi said, is economic development, which includes new kinds of businesses and "high tech jobs." The creative economy is a step in the right direction but more concentration on other sorts of revenue is also important, Morandi said.
"We're definitely going in the right direction in Pittsfield. We certainly need a vibrant downtown and we have that, but we need to expand beyond the downtown. I want to see the full potential of Pittsfield," he said.
Knocking on over 750 doors in Ward 2, Morandi said he has a clear idea of what city residents want and need from a City Councilor. If elected, he plans to host monthy meetings in his ward where constituents will be able to voice their concerns and Morandi can provide updates about decisions made in Council meetings.
"I will be a strong voice for the people and I will represent them in Cuty hall," he said.
Other big issues for Morandi are working to clear up crime, drugs and gangs on the streets of Ward 2 and the PCB-landfill Hill 78 site near the Allendale School.
"The people of Pittsfield deserve the best, so on Nov. 6, say 'yes' to Pittsfield," Morandi said.
