Roger W. Mahar, 91

CHESHIRE, Mass. —
Mr. Roger W. Mahar, 91, of Cheshire, died on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
He was born in Adams on May 19, 1933, a son of the late Wilson and Celia (Bostwick) Mahar. He attended schools in Adams.
Mr. Mahar was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having fought in the Chosin Reservoir battle with the United States Marine Corps 1st Division, he was part of the prestigious “Frozen Chosen”. He served with the United States Marine Corps until receiving his honorable discharge as Private First Class on August 28, 1953. After his Marine Corps service, he worked many jobs including being a long-haul truck driver. Mr. Mahar later attended a training course at the Quincy Shipyard, where he earned his certification as a welder. He was a long-time employee of General Electric in Pittsfield, where he worked until his retirement. Mr. Mahar was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. He loved to hike Mt. Greylock several times a year, never using a trail, knowing the mountain like the back of his hand. He had a great love of the mountain and never missed an opportunity to hike it or ski the Thunderbolt Trail in his younger years. Roger was best known for his grit, his love for his family, and ability to be a true “jack of all trades”. He was a member of the former St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Adams. As well as the Adams, Post 160 American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, the former Harriet O’Dell, whom he married on December 23, 1953; two daughters, Linda Baker and her husband Robert of Adams and Darla Senecal and her husband Russell of Clarksburg; four grandchildren, Corporal Joshua Baker and Officer Dakota Baker, of the Adams Police Department, and Zachary and Elise Senecal as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by eight brothers and four sisters.
Per Mr. Mahar’s wishes, there are no funeral services or calling hours.
