The Other America June 11th10:58AM / Monday, May 21, 2007
Martin Weinstein, professor of political science at William Paterson University of New Jersey, will be presenting a lecture on "The Other America: Why Latin America Matters."
The lecture will take place at Hancock Shaker Village on Monday, June 11, 2007, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. The lecture is sponsored by the Berkshire Institute for Lifelong Learning (BILL).
Much national news coverage today is centered on the conflict in Iraq and other regions of the Middle East. But trouble is steadily brewing throughout Latin America, with serious implications for trade and security issues for the United States, according to Weinstein.
Mexico and Venezuela are the nation's second and fourth most important sources of foreign oil.
Twice a Fulbright recipient, Weinstein specializes in Latin American politics, and is the author of a number of publications on the subject. His lecture will focus on why Latin America matters to the United States. It will also assess the current political situation in Cuba, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina
