| WNYT Channel 13 meteorologist Jason Gough [submitted photo] | North Adams – Meteorologist Jason Gough of the WNYT Channel 13 NBC television affiliate will be the be the keynote speaker at the Region I Science and Engineering Fair. Middle school students in grades six through eight are expected to participate during the fair on Saturday, May 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Amsler Campus Center Gym.
The event is free and open to the public.
Gough will give a presentation on weather and the science of hurricanes.
Former Gov. Jane M. Swift will open the event with a give a brief talk entitled "Making Science Count" at 9 a.m..
Gough joined the NewsChannel 13 First Warning Weather Team in December 2004. His first job in television was as a forecaster and weather producer at WJLA, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C.. He earned his Bachelor's degree in meteorology from the University of Maryland.
He worked in Corpus Christi, Texas as a weekday morning and noon meteorologist at the NBC affiliate KRIS. While in Texas, he visited more than 100 schools and businesses to talk about weather, especially hurricanes.
More than 100 middle school students from Adams, North Adams, Dalton,
Springfield, South Hadley, Amherst, Westhampton and Orange are expected to participate. Science fair winners will advance to the Massachusetts State Middle School Science Fair at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute on June 2.
