North Adams – The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts chapter of the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group (MassPIRG) will host the 23rd Annual Hunger Cleanup on Sat., April 14.
In Action
MassPIRG expects over 100 MCLA students will be sponsored to do
community service at local hunger and homelessness organizations. The
revenue raised will benefit the Louison House in Adams, the National
Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness, the Girl-Child Network in Zimbabwe (which helps girls at risk for abuse get help), and refugee camps in Darfur, which are in need of medical supplies.
In addition, the MCLA chapter of MassPIRG will offer a free meal for
the campus and community on April 14 at the Church Street Center Social Hall at 12:30 p.m.. The free,Italian luncheon is open to anyone who wants or needs a meal.
Busy Day
Another project of the day will be a food, clothing and empty soda can drive with the food going to the Williamstown Food Pantry, the clothing going to A Better Chance House, and the money from the redeemed soda cans to both organizations.
Students will collect food from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wild Oats Market at 320 Main St. in Williamstown.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., they will be on the MCLA campus, in the lobbies of Berkshire Towers and Hoosac Hall and the Townhouse Greenhouse collecting food, clothing, and empty soda cans.
In addition, students have placed a large box in the North Adams Price Chopper to collect food donations through April 14.
