- Berkshire Family And Individual Resources has been awarded a second “Helping Hand†grant from the First Congregational Church of Williamstown.
The grant will fund in-house trainings with Edward Frampton who has recently come forward to talk about life at Belchertown State School where he lived from the age of five to his early teens and on and off during his twenties.
An advocate for people with developmental disabilities, Frampton will speak to staff about his personal experiences at Belchertown and answer questions.
The trainings promote “Walk a Mile in My Shoes,†an initiative by the Department of Mental Retardation and BFAIR to create opportunities for caregivers to understand the needs of people with disabilities by “stepping into their shoes.â€
Debora DiDonna, BFAIR’s Quality Facilitator said “he has been a tremendous addition to our new staff training. His story is moving, passionate and inspiring who is privileged to hear it.â€
