North Adams – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts alumna Patrice
Payne ’07 (January) recently was inducted into the Massachusetts Hall of Black Achievement at Bridgewater State College, during its 19th year of celebration of the Hall of Black Achievement.
Payne, who majored in fine and performing arts, was a member of the
Judicial Board and African American Studies Club. On the Dean’s list from 2004 to 2006, she performed community service duties such as collecting food for the Katrina Relief Fund, and helped to raise money for Black Entertainment Television’s Rap-It-Up.
Payne, a Boston native, plans to have a career working with children in the arts.
Every year, the Hall of Black Achievement ceremony honors and inducts
those who have made large impacts in society, such as Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Dr. Charles Richard Drew. This year, the inductee was Malcolm X.
Qualifying guidelines for the Hall of Black Achievement include
maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher, involvement in academic activities, participation and leadership in co-curricular activities and service to the college community.
