Concert At Simon's Rock College

12:00AM / Tuesday, February 27, 2007

Great Barrington – The South Berkshire Concert Series in collaboration with MusicWorks is pleased to present "Prague Spring: Czech Republic – USA, a Musical Bridge" featuring the Hawthorne String Quartet and guests.

The concert will take place on Sat., March 10th at 8:00 p.m. in The McConnell Theater of the Daniel Arts Center at Simon’s Rock College.

Formed in 1986, The Hawthorne String Quartet has performed extensively throughout Europe, South America, Japan and the United States. They have garnered international recognition for playing works by composers persecuted under the Nazi regime during World War II, specifically Czech composers.

The March 10th program will feature pianists Erik Entwistle and Vit Micka, and mezzo soprano Deborah Rentz-Moore performing works of Dvorak, Burleigh, Martinu, Weinberger, Jezek, Husa, and Post. Visual artist Catherine Cabaniss has created a series of paintings inspired by the Third String Quartet of David Post which will accompany the musical performance.

The audience is also encouraged to attend a pre-concert panel discussion with Catherine Cabaniss, pianist Erik Entwistle, Vit Micka, composer, pianist, conductor and Prague Conservatory professor and noted composer David Post. The discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Liebowitz Studio Theater of the Daniel Arts Center.

Tickets for the concert are $25, $20 for seniors. Students and youth 18 and under are admitted FREE. For more information please call (413) 528-7212 or visit www.simons-rock.edu
