70+ Ski Race At Butternet

12:00AM / Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Great Barrington - Ski Butternut is happy to host the annual 70+ Ski Club ski race on Wednesday February 7th.

The race will take place on the Main Street race course. The race is open to any member of the 70+ Ski Club. The modified giant slalom race starts at 11:00 a.m. Registration for the event will take place in the Lower Lodge the morning of the race starting at 9:30 a.m..

Lift tickets are $10 for anyone age 70+. Ski Butternut's Ski School desk staff will be happy to assist anyone with directions or information if needed.

Richard T. Lambert is the 70+ club president and organizer for this annual event. The race is divided into the following age groups: 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, and 90+.

“All entrants 90 years of age or older are recognized every year regardless of their racing prowess. We don’t have too many that still race as they get on into their nineties, so those that do deserve special recognition,” said Lambert.

Cost to join the 70+ Club is $10. Lambert is usually prepared to sign people up the morning of the race if needed. But please bring proof of age. A driver’s license is best. The process may be expedited by printing an online application, and filling it in prior to the race, visit www.70PlusSkiClub.com .

During 2006, Lambert awarded gold, silver and bronze medals to winners in each age category based on the fastest times.

“Let me tell you we have a lot of seniors that can really ski," said Lambert. "This is a competitive group; notwithstanding our advanced ages we still know how to go fast and have fun.”

Ski Butternut is proud to say that for the past few years the fastest racer has been Gerhart Menzel, an active member of the Butternut Ski Patrol. Menzel handles much of the Butternut Ski Patrol staffs sled and toboggan training.

Ski Butternut sells midweek lift tickets to seniors age 70+ for $10. The ski venue offers a season pass for seniors ages 70+ for $99. The 70+ pass is valid every day of the season. Many seniors purchase a season pass so they can enjoy skiing with other family members and friends who may not have the freedom to visit the mountain midweek.

Additional information is available at a www.SkiButternut.com Internet web site. Ski Butternutoffers $229 adult season passes. These "anytime passes" go on sale for the 2007-08 season beginning during late February and carry with them the bonus of skiing all of this March and hopefully into April of this winter for free. This bonus is provided to prospective new guests as an immediate incentive to purchase early.

Ski Butternut offers $15 lift tickets every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday all season long (excluding our holiday periods). Ski Butternut’s late season deal offers $15 lift tickets everyday (including weekends) starting March 12th right through the end of the season. The lift tickets represent nearly a 70% savings off our regular $49 adult weekend lift ticket rate.
