Pittsfield – The Berkshire Children’s Theatre will present The Little Mermaid at the Berkshire Museum in downtown Pittsfield on Sat. Dec. 2, at 11 a.m., and again on Sun., Dec. 3, at 2 p.m..
The adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale is written and directed by Kara Demler. The performance is offered in connection with the Festival of Trees By the Sea. Tickets are $10 adults, $7 children ages 3-18 ($5/$3 members), which includes Festival admission. To order tickets, call 413-443-7171, extension 10. Advance ticket orders are recommended.
The production follows The Little Mermaid as she leaves her life as a beloved princess under the sea to discover her destiny and her prince on the land above. The Berkshire Children’s Theatre is an ensemble of local performers ranging in age from 5 to 19. Assistant director is Debbie White. Arrangements are by Carlton Maaia.
The Festival of Trees is sponsored by Legacy Banks. Family Peformances at the Berkshire Museum are sponsored by Pittsfield Cooperative Bank and underwritten by the Rita and Sol Toscher Memorial Fund.
Festival of Trees By the Sea is on view at the Berkshire Museum through December 31. Some 200 decorated trees will fill the galleries for the Festival of Trees “By the Sea.†Tree decorators—local businesses, organizations, and school children—create trees inspired by the theme, from seaside resorts to pirates, from lobsters to mermaids. Nautical art, historical artifacts, and natural science specimens relating to the sea will also be on view, drawn from the Berkshire Museum’s extensive collection. Highlights will include a walk-in coral reef replica complete with coral specimens and a life-size model shark, and the “Maritime Legends Hall of Fame,†featuring real and fictional artifacts relating to pirates and other seafaring figures.
The Berkshire Museum is located at 39 South Street on Route 7 in Downtown Pittsfield. Regular operating hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. During the Festival of Trees, the Berkshire Museum is also open until 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings and on December 8. Festival of Trees admission is $9 for adults, $7.50 for seniors 65 and older, and $6 for children ages 3-18 ($5/$4/$3 for members). Children under 3 are admitted free.
