Tree Hunt

Do you have a tree that could do this job?
North Adams - City officials are seeking two tall evergreens for donation as the downtown's holiday trees.

City Fire Services Director Stephen Meranti issued a call for trees that are 25 feet to 35 feet tall. Trees should come from the Northern Berkshire region and be in good condition.

Those interested in donating a tree should contact Meranti at 413-663-23103 or at a 24-hour message number, 413-662-3155.

Trees will be examined before being chosen, Meranti said. The selected trees will be cut down and removed from the property by city work crews. All but a stump is removed by the workers, he said.

"We have a crew, a crane, a dump truck for pine boughs, and if we need it, we have a wood chipper," Meranti said. "We clean up everything but the stump."

The deadline for offering a donated tree is the first week of November, Meranti said.
