| This motorcycle was destroyed during a fatal Route 2 crash on July 9. | Florida - A Connecticut man was killed during a July 9 Route 2 crash that occurred when a 1996 Honda Gold Wing three-wheeled "trike" collided with a 2002 Yamaha Warrior motorcycle.
Tyler W. Holloway, 43, of Stratford, CT., was pronounced dead at North Adams Regional Hospital after being taken there by the North Adams Ambulace Service. Raymond J. Merchant, 80, of Wolcott, CT., and his passenger Joyce Merchant, 80, sustained minor injuries and were also taken to North Adams Regional Hospital, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Holloway was driving the Yamaha motorcycle west along Route 2, also known as the Mohawk Trail, and Merchant was driving the Honda trike east along the highway when the trike crossed the center lane marking line and collided with the motorcycle. Holloway was thrown from the motorcycle, according to police.
A Honda Gold Wing trike and a Yamaha Warrior motorcycle collided near the Florida fire house. | The crash occurred at about 1:40 p.m. while a firemen's muster was underway in Florida. A North Adams Ambulance Service ambulance and several town firefighters left the muster to respond to the emergency call.
The crash occurred very near to the town fire house. Investigating police officers were at the scene for over three hours. The motorcycle was destroyed in the crash and debris from both cycles was spread across the road and roadside.
East- and west-bound Route 2 traffic was detoured over North County Road. A preliminary investigation was done by Massachusetts State Police Officer Michelle Mason. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. A state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section team is involved in the investigation. |
