Utility crews worked through most of the June 9 morning repairing damage caused by a one-vehicle crash on River Street.
North Adams - A 20-year-old Maryland youth who told police that he fell asleep at the wheel was charged with negligent driving after the 2006 Toyota Camry he was driving collided with a utility pole and caused electrical, telephone, and cable wires to fall to the ground.
The crash occurred at about 4:24 a.m. June 9 at the intersection of River and Veazie streets, according to police.
Pierre Andre Boodhoo of Randallstown, Maryland, was driving east on River Street when the the Camry veered off the road, over the curb, and struck the pole.
Boodhoo was not seriously injured during the crash.
A Verizon worker on the job
Workers from National Grid, Verizon, and the Adelphia Cable company were at the scene during most of the morning repairing the damage.
City police provided traffic control assistance while the work progressed.
The vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene by Dean's Quality Auto service.
Boodhoo was traveling to a city destination when the crash occurred, police said.
