Williamstown- Commuters who travel Routes 2 and 7 and navigate the intersection of the routes at Field Park must be alert to change at the intersection.
The Route 2 and 7 intersection is being redesigned as a rotary-style intersection. Yield signs and pavement markings have been placed at each intersection approach, including Route 7 south [North Street], Route 2 west [Main Street], Route 7 north [Cold Spring Road], and West Main Street. South Street traffic will continue to be governed by a stop sign.
All traffic approaching the Field Park intersection from one of the identified routes must yield to all traffic already traveling within the rotary, according to town police.
Traffic barriers have been erected at the intersection of Main Street and North Street that require all southbound traffic on North Street to make a right-hand turn and proceed around the rotary. Left turns from Route 7 south, or North Street, onto Main Street, are prohibited, and Main Street , or Route 2, may be accessed by turning right at the intersection and proceeding around the rotary [past the Milne public library] and exiting by making a right turn onto Main Street.
Motorists who fail to yield at the intersection may face a $100 fine. Police are urging drivers to obey posted speed limits and drive with caution while people who travel the route adjust to the new traffic pattern.
Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact the town police department at 413-458-5733.
