| City Councilor Gailanne Cariddi was sworn in as City Council President by City Clerk Marilyn Gomeau on Jan. 3. | North Adams – Eight incumbent city councilors and one newcomer accepted the oath of office during a Jan. 3 ceremony held at the City Hall City Council chambers.
City Clerk Marilyn Gomeau delivered the oath to Councilors Richard Alcombright, Clark Billings, Michael Bloom, Ronald Boucher, Gailanne Cariddi, Marie Harpin, Alan Marden, Robert Moulton Jr., and Christopher Tremblay.
City Councilor Christopher J. Tremblay is poised to serve his first two-year council term. | Tremblay, of 57 Harris St., will be serving his first two-year term after being elected to the ninth council seat during a November city election. Speaking before the swearing-in ceremony, he said that he was excited and looking forward to serving on the council.
Cariddi, of 100 Galvin Road, was unanimously elected council president and Marden, of 568 West Main St., was unanimously elected council vice-president.
During her remarks, Cariddi said that at the next council meeting, she will be asking councilors to take under their purview a proposal to extend the Ashuwillticook Trail from Adams to North Adams and into Williamstown. She plans to ask for the authority to appoint councilors as temporary liaisons to specific city entities, she said. Cariddi offered thanks to Bloom, who served about one year of the previous two-year term while battling serious illness, and also offered a welcome to Tremblay.
Councilors serve the city with honesty and integrity, Cariddi said.
“I am confident that every action we take and every decision we make will be to the betterment of our residents,†she said.
Councilor Michael Bloom and his wife Lorrie Bloom. | Heather Putnam Boulger and John Hockridge were sworn in to four-year terms as members of the North Adams Public Schools School Committee. Boulger, Hockridge, and Mark Moulton were unopposed during the city election. Moulton was not at the ceremony and will be sworn in on Jan. 4.
Alcombright was sworn in to a four-year term as a member of the Northern Berkshire Regional Vocational School District School Committee. Alcombright and Paul Gigliotti were unopposed during the city election; Gigliotti was not present at the ceremony and will be sworn in in the very near future. Councilors Robert Moulton Jr., Ronald Boucher, and Richard Alcombright share conversation before being sworn in to two-year council terms. |
