Williamstown – A 75-year-old Pittsfield man was taken to North Adams Regional Hospital following a late morning Jan. 3 two-vehicle crash on North Hoosac Road.
Joseph Macchi of Brown Street sustained lacerations and reported experiencing chest pains to emergency personnel at the accident scene. Members of the Village Ambulance Service transported Macchi to the hospital.
Town police said that Macchi was driving a 2000 Honda Civic from the parking lot of Dave’s Auto Sales onto North Hoosac Road, and drove the vehicle directly into the path of a 1987 GMC truck being driven by Daniel Martelle, 48, of North Adams. The westbound truck collided with the car, police said.
Police said that Martelle and a passenger were not injured during the crash. The truck sustained minor front end damage, while the Honda Civic sustained extensive damage. Sayer’s towing service towed the car from the scene.
Macchi was cited by police for failing to yield the right of way.
