Three-Car CrashBy Susan Bush 12:00AM / Thursday, September 08, 2005
Williamstown – A 74-year-old town woman sustained injuries during a Sept. 8 three-car collision on Main Street.
Police said that Ruth Duncan received minor injuries and reported feeling chest pains after the early afternoon crash. She was taken to North Adams Regional Hospital by the Village Ambulance Service.
No further information about her condition was available.
Duncan was driving a Ford Focus west along Main Street [Route 2] at about 1:06 p.m. when the vehicle crossed a center line marking, police said. The Ford collided with an eastbound 1994 Dodge van being driven by 36-year-old David Caron of North Bennington, Vt.. After striking the van’s left rear fender, the Ford continued to travel across the eastbound lane, careened off of an embankment, and then returned to the eastbound lane and struck an eastbound 1987 Plymouth car being driven by 69-year-old Joel Rudnick of Williamstown, police said. The Ford struck the Plymouth in the right rear fender, traveled back into the westbound lane, then hit a curb and a traffic sign and veered back across the road before coming to a stop against a curb, according to police.
The Ford sustained extensive front-end damage, police said.
Rudnick and Caron were not injured during the crash, and charges are pending following a complete investigation, according to police.
Town police Officer Michael Ziemba was a witness to the collision and was the first officer on the crash scene.
Town Department of Public Works employees assisted police with traffic control, and Main Street traffic was slowed for about a half-hour after the crash.
