Williamstown- A reported Monday evening incident involving two eight-year-old girls and a 13-year-old female baby-sitter has prompted police to ask for information and issue a general warning.
On July 11 at about 11:30 p.m., police received a report from an unidentified caller that the caller’s two daughters and a baby-sitter were walking northbound along Cole Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. when a person driving a dark red van began following the trio.
According to police, the caller reported that the driver stopped the vehicle several times in proximity to the three youths. As the girls approached Stetson Court, they ran towards an athletic field and the van driver left Cole Avenue and drove off in a northbound direction.
The driver was described as an older white male with graying hair.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the van or the driver is asked to contact town police.
Police stressed that public awareness about all potential criminal activity, including individuals following youths in a vehicle or on foot, is imperative, and asked that any suspicious behavior be reported to police immediately. Police noted that while the girls reported no verbal or physical contact with the driver, any similar behaviors should be reported at once so that police can attempt to identify the person involved and determine whether the behavior is criminal.
