Miller Endorsed by Clean Water Action |

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mark Miller has earned another endorsement in his bid to become state representative for the 3rd Berkshire District in the Oct. 18 special election.
"Clean Water Action is pleased to endorse Mark Miller for the Massachusetts House in the 3rd Berkshire District in the upcoming special election," said CWA Massachusetts Political Director Jeff Knudsen. "We were impressed by his commitment to protecting our drinking water; reducing global warming pollution; promoting clean renewable power and quality green jobs creation; and to replacing toxic chemicals in children's products with safer alternatives. CWA believes that Mark Miller will be a strong environmental leader and we look forward to working with him in the House."
In addition to CWA, Miller is running with the support of Planned Parenthood, the UAW, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, and Mass Alliance.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund (the political arm of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts) has announced that it is supporting Mark Miller in his bid to become the next state representative for the 3rd Berkshire District.
The announcement comes on the heels of the endorsement by Mass Alliance, the statewide coalition that includes Planned Parenthood.
George Hollister Isman of Mass Alliance cited Mark's pro-choice stance in her statement announcing the coalition's endorsement of the Green/Rainbow Party candidate: "Mark Miller is the clear progressive choice for state representative. His commitment to excellent public schools, good local jobs, a woman's right to choose, and a heath care system that is truly universal and affordable will make him a strong progressive voice in the State House."
Together with the support of the UAW, Mass Nurses and Mass Alliance, this latest endorsement shows that the GRP's Mark Miller is staking out political ground usually occupied by Democrats. In a post-primary mailing to Democratic voters, Miller highlighted his respect for Ryan Scago and Pete White, who together won 60 percent of the votes. Referring to their suggestions for job-creation in Pittsfield, Miller wrote:
"It's hardly surprising that I agreed with Pete and Ryan. After all, my political heroes are FDR and Harry Truman, and I've voted for every Democratic presidential nominee from LBJ to Barack Obama ... I'm running as a Green rather than as a Democrat because of my commitment to progressive, Democratic values. Pittsfield needs a new kind of representative and Massachusetts needs a new kind of politics."
The special election will take place Tuesday, Oct. 18.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley endorsed North Adams City Council candidate Jennifer "Jenny" Breen Kirsch, at Breen Kirsch's campaign kickoff held at Desperados Restaurant on Friday night.
Surrounded by Berkshire County Sheriff Thomas N. Bowler, state Rep. Gailanne Cariddi and Mayor Richard J. Alcombright, Coakley lent her former prosecutor support in her candidacy.
"She worked hard for me when I was district attorney and now she's back here and you can't do better," said Coakley. "There's nothing more important than good government in the cities and towns we live in, so I'm here to support her and we'll get her elected."
Breen Kirsch said: "I take Martha's support tonight very seriously. Having been a Middlesex prosecutor, I know what a great attorney Martha is, her protection of children and victims of crime. Two things I carried back to the Berkshires with me. I also gained unparalleled trial and legal experience working for her in Cambridge. I also know how much Martha loves North Adams, and treasure that connection we have. I decided to come back home, while she decided to stay in Boston, and she has made such an impact state-wide and nationally. I love this city, I love North Adams. I want to make an impact right here."
"My platform is based on protecting the integrity and charm of the neighborhood schools in North Adams, supporting our teachers. I represent children in the court system who rely on their schoolteachers as pseudo-parents, and I revere what our teachers do for the disenfranchised in this city. I see it firsthand. As a former prosecutor, I know the impact that a good public safety system has on a community. I intend on keeping our officers safe while they are on the street. I intend on using my legal experience to protect these interests, while NOT raising taxes, because I've had so many conversations with constituents who simply cannot afford to pay one more penny in taxes. Lastly, I support the arts community, but having been raised here, I understand the need for other jobs — technology and manufacturing."
In addition to Coakley and the delegation listed above, about 70 friends and family came to lend support for Breen Kirsch's candidacy, including Central Berkshire Register of Deeds Andrea Nuciforo, and City Councilors Keith Bona and Alan Marden.

Mark Miller Wins UAW Endorsement |

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mark Miller, a candidate for the Green-Rainbow Party, has won the endorsement of the United Auto Workers, a major industrial labor union, in his bid to become the new state representative of the 3rd Berkshire District.
Willie Desnoyers, president of the UAW Massachusetts State CAP Council, said: "I'm proud to report that the UAW MA State CAP Council has endorsed Mark Miller for state representative for the 3rd Berkshire District. We are looking forward to working with Mark in the state Legislature. It is important to us that Labor endorses candidates that will respect collective bargaining rights and job creation in Massachusetts. We feel Mark is the best choice for Labor."
The decision comes even before the Democrats have had a chance to pick their nominee, who will face off against Miller and others in the Oct. 18 special election caused by the resignation of the incumbent, Christopher Speranzo. Miller welcomed the early endorsement.
"Pittsfield needs new jobs and I'm going to do all I can to bring them here. It's crazy that with so much work to do — like insulating every home in the city to bring down heating bills — our unemployment figures are higher than in the rest of the state. I'm thrilled that the members of the UAW are ready to help give Pittsfield a strong independent voice in the State House."
Usually the UAW backs Democrats. Miller says the endorsement shows a new willingness on the part of Massachusetts Democrats to break with the party, which controls 90 percent of the seats in the Legislature.
"I was a lifelong Democrat, but as with many Democrats there was a point when I had to say enough is enough. For me, that point came when the party caved in on health care," said Miller. "So although I'm not running as a Democrat I'm the candidate who is fighting for core Democratic policies like Medicare for All."

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Holyoke Police Chief Anthony Scott has endorsed Bill Gunn for U.S. representative in the 1st Massachusetts District.
The chief formally endorsed Gunn at the Holyoke Republican City Committee's annual event.
"Mr. Gunn supports the pollicies and principles that I know will put our communities and country back on right track towards prosperity and security," said Scott. "Mr. Gunn will have my vote in November."
