On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Housatonic Heritage History Alliance will hold a free workshop on using social media. The workshop, led by web designer Brent Colley, will be held from noon to 1:30 at the Berkshire Community College South County Center, Great Barrington. Participants are invited to bring their lunch to the workshop if they wish; beverages and snacks will be provided. Although the event is free, registration is required. The Consulting Alliance will hold a lunch meeting on Friday, Oct. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wolferts Roost Country Club, 120 Van Rensselaer Blvd., Menands, N.Y.

Presenters Tina Chase and Mary George, owners of Chasing George LLC, will discuss The Berkshire Forum, which they produced. The women will describe their decadelong history of producing internationally recognized technology investment conferences in association with Forbes magazine and Gilder Publishing LLC and describe how they parlayed that experience into the development and production of the inaugural Berkshire Forum event, which took place Sept.14 through 16 at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield.

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation will be holding "2010 Fall Seminars in Nonprofit Excellence," a series of seminars designed to provide essential guidance to nonprofits as funding dollars remain scarce and compliance with federal regulations becomes more complex.

Zonta Club of Berkshire County will meet on Monday, Oct. 18, beginning at 5 at Patrick's Pub on Park Square, downtown Pittsfield. On Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 10:30 a.m., Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism Director Betsy Wall and Director of Communications Lisa Simmons will present a question-and-answer session (with coffee) at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Great Barrington. The event, geared towards area tourism industry professionals, will bring guests up to speed on the office's programming and marketing initiatives, and then open up the dialogue to participants. The Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will host a free Chamber Nite event at Legacy Banks, 331 State Road, North Adams, on Wednesday, Oct. 20,  from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Berkshire Visitors Bureau will host a marketing showcase on Thursday, Oct. 21, to assist area businesses explore media options and make informed marketing decisions in 2011. The Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will host the fifth installment of its 2010 Good News Business Salute breakfast series on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, One West St., Pittsfield, from 7:45 to 9. This event will be sponsored by The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank and will salute Berkshire Life/Guardian, Hillcrest Educational Centers, Legacy Banks, Normandeau Communications and Pittsfield YMCA.

Joe Scelsi, general manager of the Berkshire Mall, will discuss the opening of the new and improved mall access road and highlighting plans the mall has in place for the holiday season.

The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will hold a social media workshop on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 9 a.m., at the American Institute for Economic Research, 250 Division St, Great Barrington. The 90-minute workshop will be led by Christina Barrett, director of marketing and public relations at Berkshire Community College, and is designed to help attendees get started in using the latest social media tools to promote their brand, communicate with current customers and market to a new generation of customers.

Berkshire Young Professionals, a program of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, will host its fourth annual Halloween Bash at Baba Louie’s, located at 34 Depot St, Pittsfield on Friday, Oct. 29, from 9 p.m. to midnight. This year’s party will feature music by Bob Heck Entertainment, prizes, and treats for all attendees. Prizes for best overall costume, male and female, and best duo/group will be awarded during the event.  Tickets can be purchased at the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce for $15 per or $10 for BYP Cardholders.  Costumes are required.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, Michael Ryan, founder and CEO of Sampco Companies and Brilliant Graphics Group, both in Pittsfield, will discuss “Using Technology to Transform Mature Markets,” during the fifth event in the Visionaries Breakfast series sponsored by BBQ: Berkshire Business Quarterly.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. with networking and conversation with members of the business community over a light breakfast, followed by Ryan’s presentation and a tour of the facility. Michael Zivyak, founder and publisher of award-winning publications Berkshire Living and BBQ: Berkshire Business Quarterly, will host the event.

Berkshire Enterprises will offer a free Business Breakfast Forum entitled "Now What?—Planning to Make Money the Rest of the Year" on Thursday, Sept. 2 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Third Floor Board Room at 1 Fenn St., Pittsfield.

Intended for business owners and managers, the forum will focus on what people are doing and plan to do to attract business now that summer is coming to a close. The forum will be lead by Steve Fogel, program director of Berkshire Enterprises.

The Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will host the 7th Annual Women in Business Luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.

Kemp, will be the event’s keynote speaker. Kemp has held positions as Superior Court Trial Attorney and District Court Trial Attorney in Berkshire County as well as Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx District Attorney’s office in New York. She holds a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law and a B.A. in English from Providence College. She is a member of the Human/Animal Violence Education Network and Berkshire Community College Criminal Justice Advisory Committee. She also is an adjunct faculty member in the Criminal Justice Program at Berkshire Community College.

Amanda Rae Busch, a senior editor at Berkshire Living Magazine, will be the emcee. Busch joined the founding staff of the award-winning regional lifestyle and culture magazine in December 2004. Three office relocations and various titles later, she is now the publication’s senior editor, writing feature articles on food, wellness, eventsand personalities; penning a monthly shopping column and restaurant spotlights; planning editorial content; editing every word in each issue; shooting the rare photograph; and occasionally co-hosting the popular "Rest of the Story" series of public forums.

Due to an unforeseen conflict, Joan McMenemy was unable to speak at this year’s Women in Business luncheon, as was originally announced. The public is welcome to attend this event.  The cost is $30 for chamber members and $45 for nonmembers and includes a plated lunch. The luncheon is sponsored by TD Bank and Zonta Club of Berkshire County.

Lee Bank and the L. V. Toole Insurance Agency will host “Workers’ Compensation: A CPA’s Guide,”a seminar for certified public accountants on Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Pittsfield Country Club.

The seminar will be presented by Kevin Ring, lead workers’ comp analyst for the Institute of WorkComp Professionals, as well as John Toole, president, and Kim Baker, account executive, from the L. V. Toole Insurance Agency.

This highly interactive seminar will focus on the critical factors that create errors and overcharges in employer’s workers’ compensation insurance premium. With this knowledge, CPAs can improve their clients’ ability to manage workers’ compensation insurance—a major source of expense and frustration for many business owners.

The Center for Ecological Technology (CET) will present a "Greening Your Business" workshop Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge. Jamie Cahillane, program manager of waste reduction and recycling programs, will lead the workshop and discuss case studies from several Berkshire businesses.  Jim Hunt from the Red Lion Inn will share some of his experiences. Businesses will be given tools and resources to take away and use at their locations. This workshop is sponsored by the USDA, RDA and the Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce.

Partnerships In Employment is hosting an employer recognition breakfast at the Berkshire Hills Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. to recognize regional employers for supporting the employment of individuals with disabilities. The Williamstown Chamber of Commerce will co-host a Business After Hours event with Images Cinema and the Williamstown Film Festival on Thursday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Images Cinema, 50 Spring St., Williamstown. Executive directors Sandra Thomas (Images Cinema) and Steve Lawson (Williamstown Film Festival) will provide brief overviews of their organizations, and a sampling of WFF shorts will be screened.

The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce has planned a Business After Hours networking event for Thursday, July 8 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Wheeler and Taylor, 96 South Main St., Sheffield. RSVP to visitor@southernberkshirechamber.com.

Wendy Krom will present the workshop "Maintaining Balance as a Leader" on Wednesday, July 7 at Chapters Bookstore, 78 North St., Pittsfield. The workshop, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon, explores leadership styles, how to work well with others on a team, and how to maintain balance when life becomes hectic. On Friday, July 9, Berkshire Enterprises will host the free business breakfast forum "Got Along Without You Before I Met You- Should I Get Along Without You Now?" The forum will be held on  from 7:30  to 9 a.m. in the Third Floor Board room at One Fenn St., Pittsfield.

The forum will focus on the experiences of small business owners hiring and managing employees, including a discussion of how to evaluate whether or not to have employees and what business owners can do to successfully hire and maintain employees. The forum will be lead by Steve Fogel, Program Director of Berkshire Enterprises. A light breakfast is included.

Thursday, July 22, the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce and Sweet Brook Farm will host a Business After Hours event at the farm, 580 Oblong Road, Williamstown. The event, available to chamber members and their employees, runs from 5 to 7 p.m.

Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be served, and samples of the farm's maple syrup will be available. Local author Jennifer Trainer Thompson will be there to sign copies of her book, "Very Maple Syrup," with all proceeds donated to the Williamstown Youth Center. The Lenox Chamber of Commerce holds its Business After Hours event on Tuesday, June 2, at 5:30 p.m., at Lance Bermeulen's Real Estate, 38 Church St., Lenox. Wine, beer, soft drinks and hors d'oeuvers will be served. For more information, call 413-637-0006.

Berkshire Business and Professional Women will meet on Monday, June 7, at Jae's Spice, North Street, Pittsfield. The meeting will include the awarding of scholarships to nine Berkshire County working women to assist them in furthering their education. The meeting also will include the installation of the new officers for the group, including new president Chris Schaefer. There also will be a short presentation by the Lenox Fitness Center and Spa on its services.

The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business After Hours event on Thursday, June 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at McCormick, Murtagh & Marcus, 390 Main St., Great Barrington. RSVP to visitor@southernberkshirechamber.com.

The Lenox Chamber of Commerce will hold an unconventional networking event on Monday, June 14 to welcome new member Berkshire Horseback. Attendees of the event, to be held at Aspinwall Stables from 6 to 8 p.m., will get the chance to ride horseback (wear long pants and appropriate footwear) into the sunset. Also on June 14, Lenox Town Hall will host a "Greening Your Business" workshop from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in its auditorium. The seminar is sponsored by the Lenox Chamber of Commerce, the Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, Lenox unplugged campaign, USDA, RDA and the Center for Ecological Technology (CET) and will be led by Jamie Cahillane, director of Recycling Services and Nancy Nylen, associate director of CET. The seminar will focus on topics including waste prevention, reduction, recycling, water and energy conservation and renewable. Case studies of local businesses who have "greened up" will be discussed.

In addition, there will be an Environmentally Preferred Products Vendor Fair. Light fare and beverages will be served. Those who wish to attend must register by Wednesday, June 9. On Tuesday, June 15, starting at 5:15 pm, Pittsfield Green Drinks will meet at Mission Bar and Tapas, 438 North St. The meeting, sponsored by Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) and the Center for Ecological Technology (CET), will be an informal gathering, open to everyone with any environmental interest. ("The drinks aren't green, but our conversations are.")

The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce is holding the networking event "Let's Connect," geared toward young professionals, on Tuesday, June 15 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Route 7 Grill, Great Barrington. There will be free hors d’oeuvres, and one free beer. Preference will be given to employees of chamber members; RSVP before June 11 to sbcc@rnetworx.com.

On Wednesday, June 16, Sugar Hill Retirement Community, 45 Main St., Dalton, will host a Chamber Night for all Berkshire Chamber of Commerce businesses and their employees. The event, catered by Mazzeo's and Ken Almgren, executive chef at Sugar Hill, is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tours of the historical retirement community will be available. Be sure to bring your business card to be entered into the drawing for tickets to an upcoming Colonial Theatre performance. The Berkshire Visitors Bureau will have a Tourism Talkback on Thursday, June 24 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Mt. Greylock Visitors Center, 30 Rockwell Road, Lanesborough. Also on June 24, Berkshire Green will hold a networking event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hancock Shaker Village, 1843 Housatonic St., Pittsfield. Pittsfield's The Morningside Initiative is hosting a Tyler Street Business Group meeting on Tuesday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority office, 81 Kellogg St. The purpose of the meeting is to support the business community on Tyler Street and Dalton Avenue and give them a voice in shaping the future of their community by helping promote its positive attributes, while increasing quality of life.  City Councilors will be in attendance to answer questions. The meeting is open to anyone on Tyler Street and Dalton Avenue. The Morningside Initiative’s mission is to preserve and restore the integrity of the neighborhood and empower residents.

The Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will host a Good News Business Salute on Wednesday, June 30 from 7:45 to 9 a.m. at Berkshire Hills Country Club, 500 Benedict Road, Pittsfield. The cost to attend is $25 for Berkshire Chamber members and $35 for nonmembers and includes a breakfast buffet.

June’s “good news” salutees include Hancock Shaker Village, Berkshire Art Association, Mountain One Financial Partners, and Gentiva Home Care. Randy Christensen, Senior Environmental Scientist at Stantec will serve as the keynote speaker and will discuss the steps related to the Pittsfield Municipal Airport.  Ryan Melle, IT Project Manager at Berkshire Bank, will serve as the event’s emcee.
