PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police say a 32-year-old resident was shot multiple times early Sunday morning. 

 

According to a statement released Sunday morning, a Shotspotter activation sent police to 101 Fenn St. Officers confirmed a shooting had taken place near the Fenn and First Street parking lot. 

 

The victim, a Pittsfield resident, had been taken to Berkshire Medical Center prior to the officers' arrival.

 

The Pittsfield Police Detective Bureau and Crime Scene Services responded and recovered numerous shell casings and other evidence. The incident remains under investigation.

Yoonsang Bae, 25, of Williamstown had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf on a single count of rape. 

 

He was released on personal recognizance. The charge is in connection with an alleged incident in Williamstown on July 26, 2014. The alleged victim is a 22-year-old woman.

 

William Brown, 28, of Pittsfield had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on single counts of assault and battery by means of a firearm, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and resisting arrest.

 

He was ordered to be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without bail. The charges stem from an incident in Pittsfield on June 2, 2017 and allegedly involved a 23-year-old man.

 

Dustin Clark, 33, of New Ashford was found not guilty by a jury on two counts of rape and a single count of indecent assault and battery.

 

Clark was accused of sexually assaulting a woman who is now 28 years old on November 25, 2009.

 

Joseph Pini, 40, of North Adams had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf on a single count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute - his second offense.

 

He was ordered to be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $25,000 bail. The charge is in connection with the execution of a search warrant on his home on August 9, 2017.

 

John Pierce, 41, of Pittsfield had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on two counts of kidnapping, and single counts of intimidation of a witness, and assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

 

He was ordered to be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without bail. The charges stem from an alleged incident in Pittsfield on July 20, 2017 and involved a 40-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Scammers are allegedly making phone calls that appear to come from the city to con residents.

 

The Police Department issued a release on Thursday saying that someone claiming to represent the "Vietnam Veterans Association of Massachusetts" has been calling people asking for money to donate for hurricane Harvey relief packages.

 

The alleged scammer is "masking" the phone number so that it appears to be coming from the city's Office of Veterans Affairs.

 

The department is telling people that those calls are not legitimate and "if a caller asks you to tape money to your door or leave it in your mailbox, you should be skeptical."

 

"If you want to provide support and relief to people impacted b natural disasters, please utilize legitimate and recognized national organizations or those specific entities that are identified b y the impacted municipalities. Please be smart with your support and donations," reads the statement from the Pittsfield Police Department.

Luis Carmona, 38, of North Adams had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on single counts of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

 

He was released on personal recognizance. The charges stem from the execution of a search warrant on his home on June 29, 2017.

William Ellsworth, 39, of Pittsfield had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on single counts of possession of heroin with intent to distribute - his second offense - and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute - his second offense.

 

He was released on $500 bail. The charges stem from a motor vehicle stop in Pittsfield on July 10, 2017.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A Pittsfield Police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly charged officers after first barricading himself in his home.

 

District Attorney David Capeless' office says Daniel Gillis, 36, of 43 Taylor St. was shot by Officer Christopher Colello Friday afternoon. Officers had responded to the address at 12:50 in the afternoon on Friday to a report of an ongoing domestic incident.

 

"The caller indicated that her ex-boyfriend was at the house, causing a disturbance, and when she attempted to intercede, he kicked in the door," Police Chief Michael Wynn said. "Shortly after the initial patrol units responded, they called for additional assistance and declared it as a barricaded subject. The barricaded subject had a knife."

 

Gillis was apparently distraught after being fired from his job and was intoxicated, the district attorney's office alleges. He barricaded himself in the house and armed himself with the knife. The woman, who was described by in the DA's statement as Gillis' girlfriend, threw the knife out of a window but Gillis went and got another one.

 

Shortly after, he exited out a rear door of the home and allegedly charged at officers who were stationed on the side of the property.

 

"He exited the residence and was coming toward the officers," Wynn said.

 

Gillis refused to drop the weapon despite police orders, say law enforcement officials, and a civilian witness and a video from a bystander confirmed that.

 

Gillis was taken to Berkshire Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

 

Friday's shooting incident is the second involving Colello. In November 2010, the officer shot Michael Barry after he had doused himself and another person with gasoline and fled into the woods in Dalton. Coello shot Barry when he refused to stop. Barry survived and later pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and vandalism. Numerous other charges were dropped and an internal investigation determined that Colello had not acted improperly.
