WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williams College head women's golf coach Erika DeSanty has guided her Eph team to the NCAA Tournament all four years she has served as the Ephs' coach.

The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Committee announced 21 teams and six individuals that will participate in the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. Williams College has been extended an at-large berth and seeded 5th in the tournament field.

Eleven conferences have been granted automatic qualification and the remaining 10 teams were selected on an at-large basis from conferences and the remaining independent institutions. Six individuals, not from selected teams, also were selected for the championships.

The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. The tournament consists of 72 holes of play over four days of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score.

The championships will run from May 14-17 at the Baytowne Golf Course at Sandestin Golfand Beach Resort in Destin, Florida. Methodist University will serve as host. Methodist University has won 13 consecutive NCAA titles.

DeSanty will have four of the five players who powered the Ephs to a fifth place finish at the 2012 NCAA Tournament last spring back to challenge for top honors.

Georgi Salant, Shelby Shote, senior Becky Miller and junior Emily Wickstrom return and sophomore Paige Whidbee is slated to fill the fifth spot in the lineup.

The Williams men's team will also join them in Destin, Fla., for the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. The men earned an automatic qualification after defeating Trinity in New England Small College Athletic Conference championships.

The NESCAC title won by the Ephs gives them a conference-leading 11 overall titles and an 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Hancock School Celebrates Thanksgiving by Highlighting Community

HANCOCK, Mass. — For many, Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude and unity. Hancock Elementary School embraced this spirit on Thursday by hosting a community Thanksgiving feast for seniors.

The children had a major role in organizing the event, from peeling the potatoes to creating the centerpieces to performing.

"Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what we have. To be thankful for the communities that we live in. Thankful for the families that we have, our friends," Principal John Merselis III said.

"And by opening our doors and inviting people in, I think we just embrace that idea."

More than 50 seniors visited the school for a Thanksgiving lunch prepared by the school's students. In addition to those who attended, the students made enough for 40 takeout orders and to feed themselves and the school's staff.

The lunch was kicked off with student performances on the drums, playing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" using boomwhackers, and a play showcasing the preparation of a Thanksgiving feast, which caused rumbles of laughter.

"[The event] gives [students] a great opportunity to practice their life skills such as cooking and creating things for people, and also [build] their self-confidence and just public speaking," said Samantha Lincoln, first and second-grade teacher.
