PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Sunday, July 11th, 2010 marks the date of a significant event. It is the 15th Annual Jimmy’s Ride and the 20th Anniversary of Jimmy Bernardo’s death. Jimmy was born August 13th, 1978 and was abducted from a local movie theater on October 20, 1990. A month later, his body was found in Ithaca, NY. Three and one half years later, the Bernardo family was able to find peace for Jimmy; the Pittsfield Police captured a suspect who plead guilty to murdering Jimmy and is serving life in prison.
This year’s Jimmy’s Ride will be held Sunday, July 11th at the Controy Pavilion on Onota Lake, and is open to the public. Bike registration begins on North St., Pittsfield at 9 a.m. Bikes will leave North St. at 11 a.m. and end their drive at Onota Lake. From there the public will join us for food, drink, music and biker games from noon until 6 p.m. The event at Onota Lake is free to attend and kids are welcome.
Berkshire County Kids’ Place is also holding it’s 3rd Annual Bike Raffle, sponsored by Ronnie’s Harley Davidson. This is a chance to win a 2010 Harley Davidson Street Bob FXDB, or $10,000 cash. Tickets can be purchased at Berkshire County Kids’ Place located on 63 Wendell Ave. in Pittsfield, or can be purchased the day of the event on North Street or at Onota Lake. The drawing for the raffle will be Sunday July 11th.
This year’s event is underwritten by Greylock Federal Credit Union. Sponsorship is also being provided by many local business, McLean Realtors, Hi-Tech Mold & Tool, Inc., MacFarlane Office Products, Comalli Electric, Lee Bank, Pittsfield Elks Lodge 272, Craneville Place of Dalton & Sugar Hill Assisted Living, and Macony, PC Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
All proceeds from the Jimmy’s Ride will benefit Berkshire County Kids’ Place & Violence Prevention Center, Inc., a Children’s Advocacy Center providing intervention, prevention and treatment services for victims of child abuse and family violence in Berkshire County.
