ROPES Camp Forms Available at New Web Site

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Northern Berkshire Youth ROPES Summer Program is now online at Northernberkshireropes.com

The new Web site, designed by Jim Franzinelli, features pictures of previous camps, information for upcoming camps and activities including the ROPES ride and Golf Tournament.

The free one-week camp is held twice each summer at the Historic Valley Campground at Windsor Lake. This year's camp will be held July 19 to 23 and Aug. 9 to 13. The camp begins each morning at 8, Monday through Friday, and is dismissed Monday through Thursday at 4 p.m. and Friday at 2 p.m., at the completion of the graduation ceremony and picnic. The camp includes both low and high ropes, "challenge by choice" elements and team building.

Eligibility for the camp is as follows:

First-Year Campers

Students from Adams, Clarksburg, Cheshire, Florida, Hancock, New Ashford, North Adams, Lanesborough and Williamstown.


Students must be in the target grade from their community:
  • Grade 5: Adams (Plunkett and BArT, St. Stanislaus), Clarksburg, Cheshire, Florida, Hancock, New Ashford, and Pine Cobble in Williamstown.
  • Grade 6: North Adams, Lanesborough and Williamstown elementary schools.

Mentors
  • Must have previously attended and completed a ROPES camp.
  • Fill out complete application form. Complete a 500-word essay on "what I learned about myself while at the ROPES camp and why I want to be a mentor."
  • Must have attended the Mentor Boot Camp.
  • Be approved by the Mentor Committee.

Application forms for the camp are available on the Web site from March 1 to March 31 and are due by April 15.

Mentor application forms are available from March 1 to March 15 and must be submitted by March 22.

No application forms received after the designated deadlines. Forms may be mailed to Northern Berkshire ROPES, 11 Summer St., North Adams, MA 01247 or returned to the North Adams Police Department at 11 Summer St.

New North Adams Restaurant Approved for Liquor License

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A new restaurant on Main Street, a provisions shop and a convenience store all got the nod from the License Commission on Tuesday.
 
Siblings Colleen and Sean Taylor are expanding their cuisine empire yet again with the establishment of Main & Mill in the old TD Bank. They were before the commission to apply for an all-alcohol license. 
 
The building is owned by Ginko on Main Street LLC, which has granted 20 years exclusive possession of the property to Latent Builds as the developer. Jack and Suzy Wadsworth, behind Ginko, are development partners with Salvatore Perry and Karla Rothstein of Latent.
 
The bank closed in early 2021 and purchased by Ginko late that year. Plans for the property unveiled three years ago envisioned a restaurant, retail, a park and rooftop bar. 
 
The building's hosted some pop-up eateries and is currently under construction for the new restaurant. 
 
Colleen Taylor said the restaurant will be open seven days a week serving lunch and dinner, and be open early for coffee. 
 
"It's not going to be a very big restaurant. It's about the same size as Trail House, except for Trail House has a bigger patio, so about the same seating," she said.
