Second Round of Stimulus Funding in Pittsfield11:37AM / Monday, November 02, 2009
PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Mayor James M. Ruberto announced that Governor Deval Patrick released the priority projects for the second round of highway stimulus projects. The City of Pittsfield will receive $2.8 million for the resurfacing of Barker Road and Valentine Road with construction slated to start in the Spring of 2010.
“Governor Patrick’s commitment to the City of Pittsfield has been second to none,” said Pittsfield Mayor James M. Ruberto. “The second round of stimulus funding from the Governor’s and Secretary Aloisi’s Offices will not only rebuild two major roads in our city; but it will provide work for local contractors while improving transportation throughout our community.”
The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources in conjunction with the Pittsfield Department of Public Works & Utilities will begin ‘greening’ the Pittsfield Wastewater Treatment Facility starting next spring. The green energy upgrades to the plan will include:
• Upgrading the existing aeration system from a single-speed mechanical mixing system to a fine bubble aeration system which is a energy conservation project;
• Upgrading the existing anaerobic sludge digestion system by installing a 195 kW micro-turbine system which will be powered by biogas for on-site electric power generation;
• Installing a 1,575 kW solar photovoltaic system for on-site electric power generation;
The projected budget of just over $15 million will create; 1,770 kW of green power generation, 3,252 tons of carbon dioxide emission reductions, and $647,000 annual savings in energy cost. $13.3 million has been granted to the City of Pittsfield through state and federal stimulus programs.
“These projects put stimulus money and Massachusetts people to work,” said Governor Patrick. “This administration is all about investing in our future, and these funds help.” |
