The freshman complemented the usual stellar attack of Christina Kidd (Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Kayla Bromback ( Lee). Marta Brown (Glens Falls) added 21 assists and Amanda Lane (Swansea) had had 23 digs in the first match.
Leanne Talbot (Norton) played a solid all-around game for the Buccaneers in defeat.
In the middle match of the afternoon the Lancers of Worcester State also beat the Buccaneers 3-0. In that match Lancers senior Lauren Saylor (Swansea) registered her 1,000th career kill.
The final match of the day was the most competitive match of the afternoon, all three games when down to the wire. The Trailblazers (9-1, 1-1) saw their nine game win streak to open the season come to an end. Worcester squeaked out victories in all three games by the scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23. The Lancers frontline anchored by Saylor was just the difference Worcester State needed. Saylor and Katie O'Rourke (Milford) had several key kills at the right time and middle blocker Katey Figella (Feeding Hills) was a presence on the defensive end with several blocks.
The Trailblazers also played very well as each game was tied very late. Tasha Berroa (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had six kills and several key plays in the match. Bromback and Kidd combined for fourteen kills. Brown had 22 assists in game two. The Trailblazers 9-0 record was the best documented start in over 25 years.
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy (0-9, 0-3) will host Becker College at 3:00 PM and Worcester State (6-8, 2-0) will play at Newbury on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. MCLA will continue with conference play as they travel to Westfield State Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
