Volleyball MCLA 3 Becker 0, MCLA 3 Mount Holyoke 0MCLA Sports Info 09:46AM / Monday, September 14, 2009
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - MCLA swept another tri-match this afternoon, keeping them undefeated on the season. MCLA made quick work of Becker College winning 3-0. MCLA continued their trend of jumping out early on teams. MCLA took game one easily 25-13.
Becker responded in game 2 putting together a solid effort and had game point at 24-23. MCLA however was able to stave off game point and came back to win 27-25. Game 3 was a repeat of the first game as the Trailblazers quickly rebounded and jumped out early 9-3. MCLA raced through the final game 25-10.
The offense was led by a balanced attack of hitters, Tasha Berroa (Brooklyn, NY), Christina Kidd (Glens Falls, NY) and Kayla Bromback (Lee) combined for 21 kills. The threesome was being set up as usual by senior Marta Brown (Glens Falls, NY) who led with 23 assists. The defense was led by Amanda Lane (Swansea) and Kidd; while freshman Sarah Greenwood (Northfield) is also establishing herself on that end. Greenwood had 5 digs.
Becker got a solid all around performance from junior Kelsea Laubenstein (Randolph); Laubenstein led Becker in assists. Julie Trcka (Shelton, CT) also played well leading with 10 digs.
The Trailblazers ran their record to 5-0 later in the day against Mount Holyoke. The Lyons played very competitive early before running out of gas in game three. Hayley Gundersen (Gansevoort, NY) was big in game one coming up with several key plays (kills and serves) at the right times. MCLA had problems in game two for the second straight match, but again was good enough to pick up the 25-22 win. Amanda Borsotti (Lee) picked up 6 kills in the victory.
Becker will host Anna Maria on Monday, Mount Holyoke will travel to Wellesley on Tuesday and MCLA will look to improve to 7-0 when they travel to Bard College next Saturday for a tri-match. |
