Guardsman Gets Sendoff From N.A. Democratic Committee

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The North Adams Democratic City Committee hosted a farewell dinner recently at Taylor's Fine Dining for member Massachusetts National Guard Sgt. David Robbins, who is being deployed overseas. He was presented a gift by member Diane Parsons.

Robbins, of Cady Street, has been a member of the City Committee since relocating to North Adams and is a past treasurer. He serves with the 101st Engineer Battalion. After additional training in Wisconsin, he will be deployed to Afghanistan in August.

Robbins is the son of Patricia Robbins of Lowell and is a 2003 graduate of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Prior to joining the Guard, he was affiliated with Legacy Banks.

SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
