NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - North Adams SteepleCats pitcher Tim Boyce has been selected to start in the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game for a second straight year. The 2009 NECBL All-Star Game will be held at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass. on Saturday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m.
Also starting in the All-Star Game will be SteepleCats shortstop Brandon Macias. First baseman Paul Hoilman, outfielder John Schultz and left-handed pitcher Brach Davis were all named to the Western Division squad as reserves.
Boyce, who started the 2008 All-Star Game at Fussenich Park in Torrington, Conn., is a junior out of the University of Rhode Island. After being named the NECBL Top Pitcher in 2008, Boyce is 2-0 with a 1.79 ERA so far in 2009. Opponents are hitting just .197 against him and he is second in the league in strikeouts with 47.
Macias is a sophomore out of South Mountain Community College. He's hitting .268 on the season, with a home run and eight runs batted in. He's been a mainstay near the top of the SteepleCats lineup all year. He's second in the league in stolen bases with 13 and has laid down a league-high six sacrifice bunts.
Hoilman, a sophomore out of East Tennessee State University, will also be appearing in the All-Star Game for a second straight year. He's hitting .291 in 2009 with 20 runs batted in and a league-leading seven home runs.
Schultz, a sophomore out of the University of Pittsburgh, currently leads the league in stolen bases with 14. He's hitting .303 and has also driven in a league-high 21 runs.
Davis is a junior from the University of Memphis. He's currently 3-2 with a 1.54 ERA. He's holding opponents to a .177 batting average and leads the league in strikeouts with 51 and innings pitched with 41.0.
Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. in Holyoke, but the gates will open to the public at 3:00 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., the All-Star skills competitions will begin. Competitions will include the fastest man, best outfield arm, best infield arm, best catcher's arm and a home run derby. Brandon Macias will be participating in the best infield arm competition and Paul Hoilman will compete in the home run derby.
