NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Good pitching and timely hitting were the key ingredients in the SteepleCats' 8-1 win over the New Bedford Bay Sox Sunday night at Joe Wolfe Field.

The SteepleCats used three pitchers in the game and got quality performances out of all three. Starter Charlie Law pitched six innings, gave up two hits and allowed just one unearned run while striking out six. Reliever Tim Shibuya struck out six batters in two scoreless innings of work and Ryan Walker closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth.

At the plate, first baseman Paul Hoilman went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Left fielder Ted Blackman went 1-for-2 with a triple, two walks and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot.

New Bedford's unearned run came in the top of the first inning to give the Bay Sox the 1-0 lead, but their lead was short lived. The SteepleCats scored two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. They added three more runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth.

With the win, Charlie Law improved to 3-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.73. Bay Sox starter Eric Goeddel allowed two runs over four innings of work, took the loss and fell to 0-1 on the season. The Bay Sox (12-15) will be at home tomorrow to take on the Keene Swamp Bats at 6:30 pm. The SteepleCats will in Lowell, Mass. to take on the All-Americans at 6:30 pm.
