GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. - Berkshire Community College will offer the following poker workshop at its South County Center in Great Barrington this summer.
“Fundamentals of Poker” (WKS 2820), teaches skills such as discipline, critical reasoning, money management, and strategy building. Poker basics, the game of Texas Holdem, tournament poker and how key skills come into play are covered. Classes, taught by Thomas Trifon, meet Monday and Wednesday evening, Aug. 3 through Aug. 26, from 6:30 to 8:30. Cost for registration is $160.
According to Harvard Law Professor Charles Nesson, as quoted in the Aug. 19, 2007 issue of “Financial Times,” “poker teaches people to think for themselves, it is a key component of individuality and a prime aspect of managing resources.” The article goes on to say there are lifetime skills both business dealmakers and teenagers could acquire such as “the art of avoiding making the first offer, patience, composure, respect for foes and an understanding of someone else’s point of view.”
For more information, or to register, call BCC’s South County Center at 413-528-4521. For long distance, (in Mass only), call 800-816-1233, ext. 5201 or 5202.
