Blonde Redhead will be in concert at Mass MoCA on Saturday, June 27, at 8.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Alternative rock band Blonde Redhead's tunings and quiet lyrics and their live shows have made them one of the most sought-after groups in the underground music scene.
Blonde Redhead will be in concert at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday, June 27, at 8 p.m., outside in Courtyard C or in the Hunter Center in case of rain.
While the group that consists of Kazu Makino and twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace has courted comparisons to bands reaching across multiple music genres, their sound remains completely unique and untouchable, say critics. The Los Angeles Times stated, "It's art music and heart music, with equal appeal to a Serge Gainsbourg fan as a Sonic Youth fan, without ever sounding like either act."
Blonde Redhead's most recently released album "23" was a chance for the group to "make an album of our own" in Simone Pace's words. The trio entered the recording studio with only loose ideas for songs and aimed for spontaneity, simplicity and clarity rather than an over-analyzed over-produced record. The end result is what some are calling the most striking, beautiful, and resonant album of Blonde Redhead's career.
Together since 1993 and taking their name from a song by DNA, an '80s no-wave art-based band, the quartet drew their musical and artistic inspiration from New York City's explosive underground music scene as well as movie soundtracks. Recent releases like "23" and "Misery is a Butterfly" have established them as one of the most distinctive bands of their generation.
Tickets are $25 in advance ro $29 day of show; Mass MoCA members receive a 10 percent discount. Tickets are available through the box office located off Marshall Street sfrom 11 until 5, closed Tuesdays. Tickets can also be charged by calling 413-662-2111 during box office hours or www.massmoca.org.
